Little dogs can be obedient too!

Little dogs can be obedient!

Milo is a great example of what can be done with little dogs in training. He is full of character and is showing it off here - working both on and off leash after only a week of training.

Obedient and Happy Dogs

I love how he bounces up and down in his heel - showing how happy he is to be working. It is very interesting to note that up until a week ago Milo would not want to go out for a walk and hated being out on a leash. Now he can heel both with and without a leash!

Sirius Dog Training in Vaudreuil, Qc

This is Sirius Dog Training

In Kennel Training

Offers many advantages - especially learning to work around high level distractions. As you can see in the video - Sirius is working around many dogs - all of them running and around - some trying to get his attention and he has to stay on point and do his work for me.
What a job for any dog - let alone a 5 month old puppy.

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever

Sirius is a rare breed of dog known as a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. A wonderful breed - albeit too intense for most people. If your idea of fun with your dog is coming home from work and just hanging out - look for another breed.
If you want a breed of dog who is ready to go at any time and always up for a job - this could be a breed for you.

Can a trainer really train my dog for me?

People often misunderstand the idea of a dog trainer training their dog for them

Having a professional dog trainer train your dog for you is a great way to get your dog on a fast track to wherever it is you are trying to get - whether it is obedience or helping resolve behavioural issues.
it isn’t that the dog will automatically listen to you once the course is done.
It also doesnt mean the dog will only work for the trainer and not for you.
The truth is somewhere in between and the devil is in the details.

Make sure your dog trainer is a competent professional who can deliver results

Step 1:
Train the dog.
Train the dog so that she understands what we want from her. Be clear in your work - clarity is key to communicating.

Step 2:
Make sure the owners understand their role in maintaining the training the dog has received.
This is a big part of the porocess and if you fail here all you have accomplished is having trained the dog fantastically for the trainer - which does the owners of the dog no good at all.

Step 3:
Support and follow up with the owners to make sure that they are transitioning properly after all is said and done.

Step 4:
If you are lucky like me - you’ll have wonderful clients like Angel and her family - that make the entire process feel like a trip to disney. None of it was work for me - Angel was a breeze to train and her family could not have been any nicer to work with. Thank you Chris, Mina and Maria - all the best to you and Angel. I know we’ll be in touch for a long time to come!

How well does your dog Heel?

Angel is a young Shiloh Shepherd who has had one and half weeks of training in this video.

Does your dog know left from right?

I am playing a game with Angel to test her and see if she truly understands that she should only heel on the left.

I start her on the right - and she comes back. I move out of the way to trick her.
She comes back.

She clearly gets that she heels on the left hand side.

Can your dog heel off leash?

All of this is being done off leash - out in the street - with neighbours out doing normal daily things, kids playing basketball just down the street and other distractions around.
Angels is doing everything off leash after just 1 & 1/2 weeks.

Focus, Focus, Focus - the key to a well trained dog

Aside from our left/right game - Angels focus is outstanding. Watch how she never takes her eyes off of me - we connect from the moment we start to work until it is over. Dog trainign is about communication - and is a 2 way conversation - not a dialogue. Angel tells me all I need to know from her eyes and body language.

Labradoodle training

Labradoodles are becoming increasingly popular and for good reason:

They dont shed.
They are cute and can be had in a nice compact package.
And they are smart.

5 month old Labradoodle puppy off leash obedince trained in just one week

Here is Jarvis - a 5 month old Labradoodle who has had one week of training and is already doing all of his excercises both on and off leash.
he is a fantastic little pup - who has learned to Heel, Come when called, go to his place and stay there, Sit and Stay, Leave it, Not jump up, not bite.

Good dog owners are the key to raising wel behaved pets

His owners are fantastic and very involved with Jarvis, wanting him to be a part fo the family and making his training a top priority. We did puppy training when Jarvis was still quite young and this is the follow up to his puppy training and wil be the training that will carry him for the rest of his life!

Fully Off leash trained in under 3 weeks!

Rescue mix breed dog training

Rescue dog fully off leah trained in less than 3 weeks

Here is Niko less than three weeks after he came in for training. I am so proud of how well he has done - and he is such a fun dog to train!

Off leash obedience with distractions

Niko is doing all of his excercises off leash - and with other dogs around and getting in his space to boot. He can heel, come when called, sit and staya nd go to and stay on his place - with all the other dogs pestering him. No easy feat!

My only regret is I forgot to bring along his training collar to the session and we used one of mine - which is clearly a size too big for Niko - he didnt mind - it just looks goofy to me:-)

How long will my dog need the collar for?

I call Bobby - a Scottish Terrier into the mix at one point. I trained Bobby last year and he is back for boarding so I thought it would be fun to include him as a distraction.

Bob/Bobby/Robert (as we call him depending on the day) was a hellion when he came in and had a good degree fo dog aggression - one of the main issues when his owner contacted me for training last summer.
Here he is - having fun with the little dogs outside - no aggression at all - no training collar and doing a perfect recall and place command - just cause he can!

Two obedient dogs off leash

2 for 1.
I Can’t comlain.
Both dogs keep their focus completely on me - waiting for the next command.

Dog training should be fun and produce results

Thanks to their training Niko and Bobby’s owners as well as the dogs can enjoy their lives with little stress and go whever they like without worry.

2 weeks to a fully trained labradoodle

Off leash obedience in Montreal Dog parks

Here is a fun video of Lynn and Angus working together at the end of their 2 week intensive course.Nick went to visit Angus each day for 2 weeks and trained him for Lynn and then taught Lynn how to maintain the training Angus received - and they both did fantastic.

Dog training on Dr Penfield @ Percy Walters dog park. Distractions galore.

Lynn actually met Nick at the very same dog park while Nick was training another dog and Lynn was enrolled in another trainer's class and not getting the results she had hoped for.You can see Angus heeling on and off leash - doing place - even with another dog jumping up on his rock and then taunting him to play.Take special note of how obedient Angus is in the face of distractions and so playful with the other dogs when "off duty".

Bernese Mountain Dog Heeling Off Leash in Downtown Montreal!

Here's nice follow up video sent by Alycia - showing how she is doing with Baylor. She is heeling him off leash in downtown Montreal - around lots of people and traffic - clearly she trusts her dog and his training - as well as her handling skills.I trained Baylor for Alycia - in two weeks and then taught her how to handle Baylor in one lessons working together.Videos like this make my day - it is nice to see someone out there working with their dog and making the most out of their training, time and relationship!

2 weeks to a fully off leash trained dog - and the owner learned all she needed as well. Training dogs and teaching people - 1 at a time - family K9 Dog Training.

Hey Nick,

Just thought I would give you a quick update. Baylor is doing great, we practice every day either inside or outside and today he did amazing. We were at the dog park with probably 12 other dogs and he was playing while listening to the commands I was giving him. Everyone was giving him complements as to how well he was behaved. He was coming to every single come while playing with many dogs (lots of distractions), doing his places perfectly, he even dropped a twig from his mouth when I said leave it, which was awesome. I even trusted him today to walk off leash the whole time to and from the dog park. His heel is great. We walked by many dogs and people and as long as I said leave it from time to time he stayed right by my side.

Thank you so much for teaching me the tricks. This is so fun working with Baylor.

Making life easier for Montreal Dogs and their people

Andre wanted what every dog owner wants:
To be able to include his dog in his daily activities and be able to control her as needed.
Airdale Terrier aggressive problems Lachine Canal

Dog behaviour wishlist:

Andre contacted me by email about his Airdale Terrier Lizbeth and he had some specific problems he hoped to have corrected.:
She could be aggressive to people at times and in certain contexts.
No one could approach the car when she was in it - she would try and bite.
He could not go through a drive through with Lizbeth for the same reason.
Joggers and fast moving people were potential bites as well as strangers out on a walk.
She was bratty in the house and he had no off leash control outside.
His daily routine at a local cafe/bakery coffee and a muffin was a problem since Lizbeth would get too excited and bark in a frenzy when they got there.
Her greetings of people she knew were out of control at times and needed to be toned down - allowing Lizbeth and the people she knew to interact in a more pleasurable way.

Andre wanted what every dog owner wants: To be able to include his dog in his daily activities and be able to control her as needed.

Andre enrolled Lizbeth in
Family K9’s 2 week in home intensive training program - and the results you see in the video are at the end of the program - with Andre having learned to handle her just the day before.
Listen to what he has to say as well as watch how well he handles Lizbeth - all in 1 day since her completion. Note he also speaks about what he did with her in between our lesson - so
she is not just working becasue the trainer is present.

If the dog is trained properly - the owner as well as the trainer can have excellent control and reliability. Two weeks to a better dog!

The video shows a drive through @ a local Mcdonald’s for coffe with Lizbeth being perfectly behaved as well as Andre and Lizbeth showing off a variety of off leash obedience around joggers, walkers and other distractions right on the Lachine Canal, as well as a surprise run in with Andre’s housekeeper whom Lizbeth clearly adores and as you can see Lizbeth is happy to greet her and inetract with her - she does so in a perfectly sweet and charming ay rahter than getting wild.

Montreal's most obedient Beagle - Off leash dog training in Montreal

Montreal’s NDG Super Cheagle Maeby!Think a Beagle or Beagle mix cant be off leash trained and well mannered? Think again.

Montreal dog training

Maeby is a Beagle mix whose owners decided to have trained after having their first child. She is a sensitive and intelligent Beagle mix who has excelled at everything thrown her way and in three short weeks is fully on and off leash trained.

Take a look at her working on Heel, Come and Place as the surrounding miscreants try to corrupt her… her responsiveness and focus remain unshaken!
Go Maeby!

Here is video of Maeby working with Nick during her in kennel training program:

Here is some video footage of Maeby working with her owner for the first time the day she came home.
You can clearly see hiow well she is transferring to her woner and how well her owner has learned to concepts of how to properly maintain her training as they work together for the first time.
